- Turquoise Gokyo Lakes
- Ngozumpa Glacier
- Khumjung and Sherpa villages
Overview
A quieter Everest-region route to a chain of turquoise glacial lakes and the summit of Gokyo Ri, one of the Khumbu's finest viewpoints.
Instead of the main base camp trail, this route turns up the Dudh Koshi valley past traditional yak pastures to the Gokyo Lakes, a protected high-altitude wetland.
From Gokyo Ri at 5,357 m you can see four 8,000 m peaks, including Everest and Cho Oyu, above the Ngozumpa, Nepal's longest glacier. The trek suits fit walkers who want big views with fewer people.
Permits match the Everest region, and Lukla flights can be delayed by weather.
