Overview
Combine the Gokyo Lakes with Everest Base Camp by crossing the glaciated Cho La pass, avoiding the out-and-back of the classic route.
This loop climbs to Gokyo first for strong acclimatization, then crosses Cho La (5,420 m) into the Khumbu valley to reach Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.
It offers the two best viewpoints in the region on a single trip. Cho La involves glacier travel, so you need good fitness and may need traction on your boots.
Everest-region permits apply, and Lukla flights depend on the weather.
