Overview
Look for one-horned rhinos, deer and rich birdlife in Nepal's best-known national park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Chitwan National Park protects forest and grassland in the southern plains, and it is one of the best places in Asia to see the greater one-horned rhinoceros. Bengal tigers live here too, though sightings are rare.
Activities include jeep safaris, guided walks and canoeing with a naturalist, and you can also visit a Tharu village. Elephant-back rides aren't part of this trip.
Late autumn to spring brings the most comfortable weather. Summer is very hot and some areas close during the monsoon.
