Overview
Stay overnight in Bhaktapur's car-free old town, then head up to Nagarkot for sunrise over the Himalaya.
Bhaktapur is the best preserved of the valley's three old royal cities. Its brick squares, pagodas and pottery workshops feel very different once the day visitors leave.
From there, it's a short drive to Nagarkot, a hilltop viewpoint at about 2,175 m with sunrise views across the Himalaya on clear mornings.
A heritage entry fee applies in Bhaktapur. Mountains are often hidden by haze outside the autumn and winter months.
